Statue of the First Shogun Ieyasu

Ieyasu Tokugawa was the first Shogun of the Edo government. This seated statue was made for his sixtieth birthday. This is his actual size. Ieyasu was about 153cm (5 ft) tall.
It is said that Ieyasu was very pleased with this statue. This statue was moved to Zojo-ji Temple after Ieyasu's death. Due to this move, the statue did not burn in the Great Fire of 1657.
